HUMBLY GAY Humility Month · September

PROUD OF BEING
QUIET ABOUT IT.

June gets a parade, a flag, and a month of shouting it from the rooftops. September gets us — same joy, same pride, just... whispered. Welcome to Humility Month.

30 days. Zero bragging.

(We'd say 100%, but bragging about being humble felt on-brand to undercut.)
The Idea

What is Humility Month?

Pride Month is in June. Humility Month is its polite, soft-spoken cousin in September — a month to celebrate the LGBT community's quieter virtue: knowing how to take a compliment badly and change the subject immediately.

No parade. A polite gathering.

Instead of a march down Main Street, we recommend a small get-together where everyone insists someone else go first.

No flag. Maybe a lapel pin.

Something subtle. If someone asks about it, deflect and ask about their week instead.

No parade floats. Just... floating the idea, gently.

Big statements are for June. September is for understatements.

One honoree. Never self-nominated.

You can't nominate yourself for Humility Month. That would defeat the entire point.

Gay of the Month

Mark S., September's Gay of the Month
Mark S.
Certified Most Humble Gay Man Alive*

Mark came out at 22. He was so humble about it, he forgot to actually tell anyone — most of his friends found out by inference, and most of his circle is straight, which is, and we cannot stress this enough, completely fine.

  • Came out at 22. Told approximately no one directly.
  • Has never once brought it up first.
  • When asked directly, changes the subject to your week instead.
  • Read this page and thought it was hilarious — approved it himself.

*Self-appointed committee of one. Mark, humbly, did not object.
